#36 Asking Jesus Into Your Life – Robert Trommler

Sometimes the most difficult thing to do is to ask Jesus into our lives.  As human beings we tell ourselves all sorts of things like, “I don’t need Jesus” or “There’s nothing he can do that I can’t do myself”.  Do you recognize the trainwreck that’s coming?  In this episode Robert Trommler discussed his weakness with controlled substances and women early in his life and the role that Jesus played once he gave up his ego and asked him into his life.

Verse:   For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers” – Romans 8:38

  1. Biggest Weakness – Being willful and too analytical.  Robert can back himself into a corner thinking he has control.
  2. Biggest Strength – Gift of compassion and empathy.  Robert has an ability to see life from someone else’s perspective.
  3. Dark Time – Robert had a time in his 20’s and 30’s where he was involved with controlled substances and women, partying way too hard.
  4. Father was a Deacon who was German and strict.  Robert was not taught the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ as a child and therefore did not have a relationship with him.
  5. Robert met his wife Renee right before he found the Lord.  He was certain she was the one and smart enough not to jeopardize that.
  6. Robert had to learn how to be monogamous at 40 years old.
  7. Robert knew who Jesus was, but wouldn’t surrender to him because he didn’t understand how good it would be.
  8. A-ha moment – Walking on the beach in Corona Del Mar and was so tired of trying to hold it all together that Robert broke down and cried.  He had a spiritual and financial crash after 18 years of his party lifestyle.  It was time to let Jesus in.
  9. God’s Man of Influence – To be a listener particularly with today’s pace.  We don’t take the time to be present with other people.
  10. Robert is a member of Mariner’s Church in Irvine.
  11. Baptized at age 50 in 2004.
  12. Best Advice – Wait on the Lord and pray.
  13. Favorite Charity – Mighty Oaks Warriors

#33 Adultery, Divorce, Abandonment & Saved – Stephen Young

Stephen Young has had a hard road in his relationship with his family and with God.  His addiction to pornography as a younger man lead to an unhealthy relationship with his first wife, adultery and an abandonment of his kids.  By repairing his relationship with God Stephen was able to repair his relationship with his children.  This is his journey.

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” – Romans 8:1

  1. Biggest Weakness –   Stephen exposed hat he has a pornography and sexual deviancy addiction.  For a long time he did not have respect for women or understanding.  Satan has very powerful tools and this one is wicked.  The problem began in 4th and 5th grade.

  2. Biggest Strength – Stephens willingness to talk about life and Christ.

  3. Dark time – His darkest time when when he divorced his first wife and left his kids.  Stephen pictured his kids as being hung on a cross.  His thought was that it would be easier for his kids if he stayed away, but later came to realize that he was being selfish.

  4. You must admit you’re a liar and cheat before you move on.  Stephen stopped believing the Lord loved him or that he could continue in the marriage.

  5. Aha moment – When Stephen left the marriage he believed that God would never love him again, but his children had given him a bible and after seeing it in his stepdaughter’s room he heard God’s voice saying “I still Love you.”  He immediately went to his wife Karen and said he wanted Christ in their lives.

  6. Person of Inspiration – Pastor Steve inspired Stephen and Karen though his preaching to decide to be baptized.  Karen said, “we must surrender rather than try.”  The breath of God is in us.

  7. Now Stephen can feel the Holy Spirit guide him.  “When you lose everything, the Lord still provides and at that point you really understand it.”

  8. Advice – Become open and get rid of your secrets first.  Tell the ones you love of your struggles and sins.  Do not listen to your emotions, rather turn toward Jesus for answers.
